Cowpens National Battlefield

I'm a history geek, no doubt about it! I love historical novels, and my television is either on ESPN or the History Channel. I can tell you all about certain times in history, but my favorite time period is Colonial Times, especially the American Revolution. To some, the war is boring, but I find it exciting. This is mostly because it is all about rebellion, breaking the rules, and fighting for what your beliefs.

I've never been much of a rebel, mostly a goody-two-shoes, but when someone is cramping my style or making me do something, in which I don't want to participate in, I'll speak up! This goes for siblings (often), a few teachers, and most anyone. Sure, it puts me at risk for getting in trouble, but if I truly believe in it, I will stick to my beliefs, it's only fair.

So this weekend, when I got to visit the Battle of Cowpens battlefield, I was excited! (How lame is that??) This battle though, is my particular favorite! After an eighth grade Early American History project studying General Daniel Morgan, I had always wanted to visit the battlefield. The project opened a new door to me, history could be cool and research could be fun. Thirteen pages later, hours upon hours of research, pages and pages read, a trip to Winchester, VA to visit his grave and a statue of him, and an A on the project, all I wanted to do was visit the battlefield I knew so much about! Finally on Sunday, the day had come!!
There he is: the Daniel Morgan! Once at school, we were watching a documentary and they showed that painting any everyone laughed at him! I kind of took offense! How rude! This dude fought for their freedom and they just laughed at his face!

The battlefield was set up like a walking tour with markers that explained what would be going on at each point. It was easier to understand than the Yorktown battlefield, which is were the war ended.
It was a really nice day! It was warm, bit not super hot. I guess that is the definition of "warm."

It may have been warm the day I visited, but the actually battle took place on a much colder day: January 17, 1781.
This was the battle that led the road to Yorktown. This crucial American victory helped win the war because it is known as a turning point.

The roar in your ears, as you walk the trail around the battlefield makes you wonder, is that roar of the wind, or the roar of rebellion?

I'm going to an amusement park tomorrow and the day after that, we are driving home to Pittsburgh. That means no blog post on Thursday!

By the way, I finally making some friends! I was invited to a dinner party for a guy from my church's seventeenth birthday. I usually never describe a dinner party was fun, but this was one! I had such a good time and that was a first in a long while!
